Financial Planning Association – Quarterly President’s Newsletter
Thanks to each and every one of you for being a member of the FPA and specifically the FPA San Diego chapter! I wanted to take a minute to highlight the reasons “Why should you be an FPA San Diego Member?”
CE Credits and Education
For the first half of the year you were able to earn 8 CE credits by attending our two educational meetings and the FPA San Diego/CFA Society San Diego joint event. We anticipate providing another 6 CE credits by the end of the year. Not only did you receive CE credits, but you were also able to hear great presentations from highly respected industry professionals, for example Wade Pfau and Jeffrey Kleintop, and learn from our financial case studies. These great speakers and financial case studies will continue for the remainder of the year.
During the year we hosted two social mixers in addition to the happy hour after each educational meeting. We will be hosting another social mixer on Thursday, July 20th at Arterra’s in Carmel Valley. Be sure to register so that you can mingle with your fellow FPA members and Resource Partners. We also have a NexGen group that meets monthly and a Women’s group that meets quarterly. See below for their upcoming events:
Benefits and Discounts
Being a member provides many discounts to business owners and individuals. Take advantage of discounts on Personal Insurance, E&O Insurance, Planning Software and more. Login to your account at www.onefpa.org and go to the “Discounts” tab to explore the different opportunities.
Career Opportunities and Succession Planning
Many people who have joined the FPA San Diego have received financial planning jobs by networking with other members. To use the FPA San Diego Board for example, both Jeremy Kovacevich and I received our first financial planning jobs by being an FPA San Diego member. On the other hand, firms have also hired individuals to provide a succession plan for their firms. Another example from our FPA San Diego Board, Ian Kutneri met the successor of his firm through the FPA San Diego.
Pro Bono Opportunities
We have been working closely with Financial Independence Training (FIT) to provide financial services to the military. They had two events so far this year, through which we were able to help over 100 Marines. They plan to have other events throughout the year allowing you the opportunity to serve your community as an FPA San Diego member.
We have many resource partners that you can connect with to help your clients. As a financial planner you are not expected to know everything, but it is important to know the right people. Our resource partners can help with Long Term Care, Reverse Mortgages, Investments, Home Mortgages, Medicare Insurance, Property and Casualty Insurance, Education Planning, and more.
As you can see there are many reasons to be an FPA San Diego member and attend our numerous events. I hope this message revitalizes why you are an FPA Member and encourages you to tell more people about the organization and maybe even invite them to an event. I also encourage you to forward this message along to any of your non-FPA member colleagues.
