Happy New Year, FPA San Diego!
I am very excited to be your San Diego FPA President for 2017! This is going to be another great year for the FPA San Diego chapter, building on the initiatives of the past presidents. Which makes me extremely excited and honored to be your San Diego FPA President! To continue to build and grow we could use some help from our members who want to give back to our chapter including SDSU and all of our sponsors. My goal for 2017 is to give all of those individuals a chance to get involved.
We have many things planned for 2017 that should only enhance your San Diego FPA Membership!
First, we plan to add more interactive presentations to our quarterly meetings allowing you to share best practices, better get to know your resource partners, and connect with your financial planning community. So attend our next educational meeting on Wednesday, March 15th from 1:00 to 6:00pm at SDSU, this includes happy hour from 5:00 to 6:00pm.
Secondly, we are planning a joint meeting with the CFA Society of San Diego. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 16th from 3:30 to 6:30pm at the Grand Del Mar. The meeting will feature a presentation by JP Morgan specialists in global markets and retirement.
Lastly, we have started micro volunteering opportunities, which allows you to get involved with the San Diego FPA Chapter with a minimal time commitment. I hope many of you will take advantage of this opportunity.
In 2016 we hosted many social mixers and will continue to do that in 2017. Our next mixer will take place on Thursday, January 26th at Draft Republic in UTC from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. I hope to see you there! Registration is open now at https://fpasandiego.org/events/sd-fpa-jan-2017-social-mixer.
During 2016 the Military F.I.T program provide many opportunities for our members to give their time and expertise to our local military. We will be doing this again in 2017. The next opportunity is on Thursday, February 23rd at MCAS Miramar. Contact Steven Fox at Steven@NextGenFinancialPlanning.com if you’re interested in volunteering.
To further our reach & impact on the future of financial planning we have our NexGen group, which is one of the largest and certainly most active in the nation. These young planners are the future of our industry, and it’s in our best interest to mold and mentor them as the business owners of future generations. If you’re under age 37, I encourage you to become involved with the NexGen group. Look for our joint events so that you can meet these NexGen planners, the next one is on Thursday, January 26th at Draft Republic in UTC from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
The FPA San Diego is also working with San Diego State University to create a new curriculum for their financial planning program and give better internship/mentorship opportunity for students. We’re excited to continue expanding and enhancing our Strategic Alliance with SDSU!
For the first time in 2016 we provided you with the opportunity to receive CE credits through Webinars. We owe a big thank you to our resource sponsors for providing these opportunities! In 2017 there will be plenty more of these chances to earn CE credits, so watch your emails from San Diego FPA.
We also want to give a big thank you to our resource partners, both for their support in 2016 and their continued support in 2017! Without them we would not be able to provide such robust events. Furthermore, remember that they are a resource for you to use and enhance your practice.
Please take this opportunity to use the calendar feature on our website to pre-populate your schedule with 2017 FPA events. As you will see, we’ve already scheduled our quarterly education and social opportunities. You don’t want to miss out! Also, spread the word and get more planners involved in the FPA San Diego chapter. The Board is definitely looking forward to 2017 and providing you with the best experience possible! So as I said before, get involved, it will only make your experience better.
